Keeping Fit At Any Stage Can Be Fun

REGULAR exercise doesn't have to be boring, or a chore.
It can be an enjoyable activity that keeps you happy and healthy, without taking up too much of your time.
Just 30 minutes of moderate, physical activity each day will improve the way you feel and increase your energy levels.
If you're looking for a sport or activity, the NSW Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation offers a directory of more than 12,000 physical activity providers and facilities, with details of whether they are available in your region.
It also has suggestions for people in special situations who want to take part in regular exercise.
For example, new mothers often want to resume exercising a month or so after giving birth, but feel they can't spare the time away from the baby.
The department suggests an informal pram walking group can provide both exercise and company, and is a way of helping both babies and mothers to get out and about.
The department's website offers suggestions for how to form and promote such a group and how to choose suitable walking areas, as well as tips for ensuring both mothers and babies get the most out of the activity.
At the other end of the scale, senior citizens in the Hunter Region who are looking for a way to get active and meet new friends are welcome to front up to the Maitland Indoor Sports Centre at Rutherford on Wednesdays and Saturdays for Lifeball.
Lifeball is a team game which incorporates activities such as walking, passing and throwing a ball with the aim of scoring a goal through a hoop.
As well as encouraging physical movement and teamwork, it is also a thinking game, designed for fun and fitness.
Although it can be played by anyone from eight to 80, it is suited to older adults, as it improves heart and lung function, increases circulation and relieves stiffness.
For more information ring the Lifeball coordinator on 49261633 or turn up at the Maitland Indoor Sports Centre for the games which are held between 10am and 11.15am each Wednesday and Saturday.
For information about sporting activities close to you, go to www.dsr.nsw .gov.au or phone the NSW Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation on 131302.
