Arthur Lydiard did all that - except he wasn't mad. He devised a training system that produced Olympic champions and medallists. His methods remain the most widely used among middle- and long-distance runners around the world. He also fathered the jogging boom through the exercise rehabilitation programs he devised for heart attack patients.
